Red Chokeberry

This upright, multi-stemmed, suckering shrub attains heights of 6 to 10 feet. Renewal pruning will prevent the plant from becoming too leggy. Use this plant in the home landscape in mass plantings or borders. Small white flowers appear in late spring but are not particularly showy. Bright red pomes develop in fall, and they remain firm and glossy until midwinter. 'Brilliantissima' is a Chicago Botanic Garden favorite. In fall, red chokeberry has spectacular red leaf color and red berries, bringing fine fall color to the shrub border.
