American Bittersweet

Native to the United States, unlike its invasive Asian cousin, the perennial bittersweet vine Bailumn has yet another botanical claim to fame: its perfect flowers. That means that the flowers have both male and female parts and one plant alone can produce fruit. Plant Bailumn bittersweet in full sun and average soil where it will grow 15-25 feet and produce greenish-white flowers in May-June followed in the fall by gorgeous orange fruits with yellow seeds.
