Transvaal Clivia

The orange-to-cream-colored pendulous flowers of Transvaal clivia (Clivia caulescens) are produced atop an incredibly tall stem—up to 6 feet in height on mature specimens—in October and November. This South African native can be grown in well drained, loose, organic soils in a wide range of sunlight levels, and requires low to moderate fertility.

Closely related species (Clivia nobilis) produce similar flower spikes on shorter stems.
