Purple Cabbage Palm

The Purple Cabbage palm is not really a palm at all although its wide purplish leaves growing off a thick woody central stem are reminiscent of palm leaves. The cabbage palm is native to New Zealand where it can grow to 35 feet in height and 20 feet in width. In northern climates like Chicago it is usually treated as an annual or as a potted plant that is overwintered in a warm sunny spot.
