Golden Arizona cypress is a beautiful, upright evergreen shrub or small tree with a conical habit. New growth is a soft yellow-green, changing to a dark, bluish green with age. The foliage of Arizona cypress consists of closely overlapping scale-like needles. Spherical cones with spine-tipped scales are produced during summer. The species is native from Arizona and into Mexico and is not hardy in the Chicago area.
