Fringed Bleeding Heart

Dicentra ‘Burning Hearts’ grows to 6 – 12 inches high with bluish gray green foliage that is fernlike and deeply cut. It blooms in mid spring with deep rose flowers lined with white which dangle from long, arching, leafless stems. The heart shaped flowers have an inner petal which protrudes from the bottom of each flower and is reminiscent of a drop of blood, thus giving the plant the name “bleeding heart”. It will continue to bloom into the summer until the weather becomes hot. In cooler climates it will continue to bloom all summer long. With adequate moisture, the foliage will remain attractive throughout the summer. It is attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies while resistant to deer and rabbits. It is hardy in zones 5 -9.
