Boke's Button Cactus

Pale pink or yellow flowers beginning in July are a hallmark of this small cactus thickly covered with small white spines. This native of the Big Bend region of Texas (and northern Mexico) requires a very sunny location, exceptionally well drained soils, and little if any water in winter (to avoid root rot). The bright red fruits are edible and a favorite of birds.
