Tall Boneset

Tall boneset (Eupatorium altissimum) offers large drifts of milky-white flowers for about six weeks beginning in late summer. Found growing throughout much of Illinois, tall boneset, which is in the same genus as Joe Pye weed, grows 4 to 5 feet tall. Each plant has a long single stem topped by branching flower heads. It is very similar to late boneset, but differs in the leaf bases, which taper to a narrow base. The flowers attract long-tongued bees, short-tongued bees, wasps, flies, small butterflies, and beetles. Typically found in dry prairies, tall boneset is easy to grow in full sun and dry soil.

Tall boneset would be suitable for planting in native garden, at the back of a mixed bed, or as a groundcover for exposed sites.
