Mountain Avens

is commonly known as Alpine avens. It grows only 6 inches tall and blooms in spring and early summer with yellow flowers that face upward. Plant it in full sun to part shade. It is native to central and southern Europe in alpine meadows and is hardy to -30 degrees F. In traditional Austrian medicine the roots have been used as a tea for the treatment of rheumatism, gout, infections, and fever.
