Ballet Slippers Rose Mallow

These sturdy, stately plants, hybrids of our native rose mallows, are prized for their use as structure in a perennial border. Everything about them is large, from their rich green, three-lobed lobed leaves to their immense flowers that appear mid to late summer. ‘Ballet Slippers’ has frilly 7-inch white petals edged with a hint of pink and a small crimson eye. The blossoms have conspicuous columnar reproductive structures in the middle, making them appear quite tropical. The flowers are followed by attractive seed capsules that remain on the plant through winter. They prefers moist, and even wet, soils but can manage in average garden soils with regular deep watering in hot dry conditions.
