Midnight Marvel Mallow

Hibiscus 'Midnight Marvel' has large, deep scarlet flowers 8-9 inches in diameter that emerge from dark red, almost black buds. The foliage is very a deep purple with a maple leaf like shape. It stands 4 feet tall and blooms from midsummer into early fall. It is attractive to hummingbirds while resistant to deer. The name Hibiscus came from the Greek work "hibiskos" that mant "marshmallow". The sticky root or stem of some plant in the mallow family was used at one time to make marshmallow confections.
