Oriental Lily

(Lilium 'Montreal'flowers have yellow stars in the center which fade to white or near white toward the outer edges of the petals. The stems stand 3 to 4 feet tall with 3 to 6 inch out facing flowers in July and August. The flowers are fragrant and attractive to bees and butterflies. Montreal is an Oriental hybrid. Oriental lilies typically bloom a little later than the Asiatic lilies and have larger flowers and taller stems. Generally Oriental lilies have a lovely fragrance, although some people find it unpleasant at best. The grace and beauty of this lily makes it a lovely addition to the garden. Lilies love full sun, but will do well in partial shade. They tolerate hot summer days, as long as the bulbs are deep enough to remain cool. Lower plants surrounding the lilies will help protect their roots from drying out. As a lily becomes more established, it will produce more blooms on higher stems. Lilies make an excellent cut flower with long lasting blooms and buds that continue to mature and open after cutting.
