Louteridium

This native of tropical rain forests in Central
and South America is noted for its large, architectural foliage, which can
reach 10 or 12 feet high. While it does flower all summer, the flowers are
quite small (about 2”) and the yellow-green and maroon color combination make
them relatively inconspicuous. But do take a close look at the way the stamens
and style protrude far beyond the petals. That’s so bats can pollinate them.

Louteridium donnell-smithii
is only hardy to Zone 10, so it’s going to be a container plant for most of us.
With constant moisture, rich loose soil, and full shade to mimic its tropical
forest origins, you can expect it to reach 6 or 7’ in a large pot.
