Pristine Apple

In May, pink colored flower buds open up to pure white flowers, and if a different variety is nearby, the golden yellow fruit with a pinkish blush will appear from late August to early September.  Like most fruit trees, the flowers, and their fragrance, in May are a welcome addition to the garden. This cultivar, like many apples, requires a different cultivar nearby (within range of honey bee flight) in order to produce a crop of edible apples. Pristine is resistant to most apple disease but not cedar apple rust. Apple trees should be planted where they can receive full sun in moderately rich well drained soils and watered during periods of drought.  This cultivar is prone to biennial bearing (meaning a large crop every other year) - consult with your local agriculture extension service or master gardener program for a list of pruning techniques to overcome this tendency if annual crops are desired.
