Crimson Fans Mukdenia

Never heard of a mukdenia? You’re not alone, but this is a beautiful perennial that deserves more attention. Native to and a distant relative to coral bells, it forms a low mound of large, maple-shaped leaves, bronze-green in spring, later becoming deep green with crimson edges before disappearing in winter. Small, white, bell-shaped flowers appear in early- to midspring before the leaves. Mukdenia requires evenly moist soil and partial shade.
