Capistrano Rhododendron
Large trusses of frilly lemon yellow flowers adorn the ends of each branch of Capistrano rhododendron (Rhododendron 'Capistrano'). This evergreen cultivar was hybridized by noted Rhododendron breeder, Dr. David Leach. An evergreen shrub to 5 feet in height by 8 feet in width, it is perfectly hardy in the Chicago area, but needs moisture-retentive acidic soils in order to grow properly, and prefers a site with afternoon shade.
