Knap-Hill/Exbury Azalea
This upright, bushy Knap-Hill/Exbury hybrid azalea (Rhododendron 'Cecile') features funnel-shaped, salmon-pink flowers with a prominent yellow flair in spring and beautiful red leaves in the fall. As with other cultivars out of the Knapp-Hill/Exbury breeding programs, it is important to site Cecile rhododendron in the landscape so that it receives good air movement, which decreases the incidence of downy and powdery mildews. It also requires moisture-retentive soils with an acidic pH. Lower pH levels (which make soils more acidic) can be obtained by amending the soils with peat moss or (preferably) adding powdered sulfur to the soil on a seasonal basis.
