Bloodroot

Bloodroot is among the earliest spring flowers to be found in the woods in eastern and central North America.  A single daisy-like white flower with 8-10 petals rises above a large round lobed leaf in April or May. A member of the poppy family, bloodroot's name derives from the red-orange sap in the stem and rhizomes.
