Double-Flowered Bloodroot

Bloodroot is among the earliest spring flowers to be found in the woods in eastern and central North America. A single white flower rises above a large round lobed leaf in April or May. This double-flowered form always attracts attention in the Native Plant Garden, as it blooms before most of the surrounding plants. A member of the poppy family, bloodroot's name derives from the red-orange sap in the stem and rhizomes.
