Common Thyme; English Thyme

This thyme species is used as a culinary herb. It can also be used as an evergreen ground cover (it will tolerate light foot traffic and release a wonderful herby fragrance when stepped on). It can grow to 12" tall and 12” wide. It blooms in late spring/early summer with pale purple flowers that are attractive to bees. It grows in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun and can tolerate drought and soils of low fertility. It will rot in moist to wet soils. Cut back stems as necessary to maintain plant appearance and size.
