Oaks: A Natural History

Saturday November 2, 9 - 12 p.m.

$49 / $62

Oaks once dominated midwestern forests and our imaginations. From historical times to today, humans, birds, animals, and insects have used and treasured these big beauties. We will examine where these trees are typically found in nature, their myriad uses over the centuries, folklore and stories, plus faunal partnerships. We’ll also look at species and cultivars available in the Chicago area today. Be prepared to go outdoors, as part of the class will be experiencing their grandeur on the grounds of the Garden.  Heather Prince, horticulturist and landscape consultant.
