Central and South America, and sporadically in the southern United States.
Plant Association:
Larvae feed on Dalechampia triphylla. Adults feed mainly on decomposing fruit, but occasionally settle on the ground to drink water with minerals in it. They are also attracted to human sweat.

The common name Starry Night was inspired by the Vincent van Gogh painting.
