Silver Fir
The silver fir is an evergreen conifer. Its bicolored needles are dark green on top and white underneath, giving the tree a silvery appearance. A European native, it can reach more than 100 feet in height. Pine-scented essential oils from this tree are used in the perfume industry. Firs are mostly native to mountainous regions, where they grow in rich, acid soil. They are not very tolerant of hot, dry summers or pollution.
