Chalk Maple
The Chalk or Whitebark Maple is native to the southern United States from the Carolinas to eastern Texas. It can reach a height of 40 feet. It gets its common name from its smooth, whitish-gray bark. Its Latin name "leucoderme" literally means "white skin". Its dark green foliage has three to five lobes with toothed margins. In the fall, the foliage turns to yellow, orange and deep red.
