Roman Hyacinth

Bellevalia pycnantha is a little known bulbous plant named after Pierre Richer de Belleval, who founded the Montpelier Botanic Garden in 1593. It resembles a larger grape hyacinth, growing to 12 inches high. From March through June it produces beautiful dark bluish purple flowers edged in greenish-yellow. Plant in a dry, sunny location in a bed or border.
