Mrs. Cholmondeley Clematis

Clematis 'Mrs. Cholmondeley' is a vigorous deciduous climber that grows 10 to 12 feet and produces 6 to 8-inch purplish blue flowers with blue and brown anthers in late spring to late summer. Plant it in full to partial sun and moist soil in a sheltered area to keep the wind from damaging the flowers. It is a member of either clematis pruning group 2 or 3; a hard pruning in the late winter or early spring will delay flowering until the fall. It does well on a large trellis, obelisk, pergola, or arch and looks beautiful growing between pink climbing roses.
