Sparkler White Spider Flower

Sparkler White spider flower (Cleome hassleriana 'Sparkler White') begins blooming at about 18 inches in height and continues to grow and bloom along its length throughout summer. The pure-white blooms of 'Sparkler White' are 4 to 6 inches wide, with long stamens. The leaves are palmate and glandular, releasing an odd scent somewhere between lemon and skunk. Given optimal soil conditions, this plant may grow up to 4 feet tall! The straight species can easily reach double this size. This is a free reseeder, and a butterfly and hummingbird magnet with thorny stems that defend it against deer and rabbit damage. Once the roots are established, spider flower thrives on heat and drought.
