Variegated Starburst Shrub

Variegated starburst shrub (Clerodendrum quadriloculare ‘Brandonii’) is a large evergreen shrub featuring masses of starburst-like pink-and-white flowers that begin blooming in January and continue throughout the winter. Not fussy about soils, this plant will grow and flower equally well in full sun or partial shade. The broad, variegated leaves provide interest throughout the rest of the year.

The genus name is derived from the Greek kleros (lot or chance) and dendron (tree), referring to the variable medical properties of some of the species. Like other members of the verbena family (Verbenaceae), most of the alkaloids in the sap of leaves, stems, fruits, and seeds do not react well when ingested by humans. The species is a native of the Philippines.
