Purple Coneflower
This plant is an echinacea which is native to eastern north America. It gets its name from the center of the flowers that look like a spiny animal such as a sea urchin.
Magnus coneflower produces large fragrant dusty purple flowers on 2- to 3-foot stems with dark green leaves. It prefers full sun to part shade and well-drained soils but is adaptable to clay and rocky soils. During the summer the plant
will attract butterflies and other pollinators. Leave the dead stems
with their flowerheads attached in winter and they will attract birds
to feed on the seeds.
