Large reddish-purple flower heads contrast nicely with the dark stems atop spotted Joe-Pye weed formerly named Eupatorium maculatum 'Glutball', a German selection of a North American native species, from mid-August right up to frost. This plant needs room to grow (topping out at 8 feet in height) and moist soil in sunny locations.
