Mesa Peach Blanket Flower

Mesa Peach blanket flower (Gaillardia × grandiflora 'Mesa Peach') has an intense peach color on its inner petals, with bright yellow tips. Gaillardias in general make a terrific addition to butterfly gardens. Gaillardia × grandiflora grows to 12 inches high with flower heads of 3 to 5½ inches across. F1 (or Filial 1) hybrids like 'Mesa Peach' are the first generation of offspring produced by hybridizing two parents. Scientists and plant breeders hybridize species to produce plants that typically reflect some characteristics from both parents, but are better adapted to the cultivated urban environment. Unlike the parental species, this cultivar thrives in cool and moist climates as well as hot and humid summers, expanding its appeal to most of the United States.
