Cloveroot

Geum urbanum is also known by its common names of Wood Avens, or Herb Bennet. It grows 1 to 2 feet high and blooms from late May to mid July with small pale yellow flowers. The flowers are singles, measuring1 inch across and facing upward. Hairy stems rise from the basal rosettes of hairy green leaves formed over winter. The species name comes from the Latin word ‘urbanus’ referring to the tendency of the plant to follow people. The hooked and hairy seed pods attach to people and animals and end up growing along well used paths. The root of Geum urbanum has been used to treat colds and chills.
