Ginkgo

EMPEROR™ ginkgo is a seedless selection with a strong central leader and an attractive branching pattern. This will be a large tree suitable for a shade tree or a garden centerpiece. It is also one of the most pollution-tolerant trees and works well in the city. It has the typical ginkgo outstanding golden yellow fall color and is drought tolerant. Due to its beautiful fan shaped leaves that resemble a maidenhair fern frond, the ginkgo is sometimes called the maidenhair tree. The ginkgo is an ancient deciduous conifer and evidence has been found which shows this tree coexisted with the dinosaurs.

This tree is a Chicagoland Grows® selection. Chicagoland Grows® is a plant introduction partnership of the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Morton Arboretum and the Ornamental Growers Association of Northern Illinois formed to promote plant cultivars that perform well in northern Illinois. This variety was selected by the Berthold Nursery after the parent tree in Woodstock, IL was identified as a superior specimen.
