Espresso Kentucky Coffeetree

The Kentucky coffee tree, which can attain heights of over 50', has a distinguished habit with coarse, irregular branches. It is good for parks and other large, open spaces. This tree produces huge twice-compound leaves with a tropical look. Each leaf can measure up to 3' long and is further divided into seven to nine segments of eight to 14 small leaflets. 'Espresso' does not produce the long woody pods of the wild species, which are considered either a novelty or nuisance. In winter, this dark-barked tree creates a distinctive form against the barren landscape; in summer, its leaves turn dark bluish-green; and fall brings a lovely yellow. A tree for all seasons.
