Dark Mystery Alumroot

Dark Mystery Alumroot is a stunning dark purple Heuchera villosa hybrid. The leaves are large, oak shaped and purple-bronze. In addition, the leaves are highlighted with a silver sheen, and enhanced by a ruffled edge that exposes the contrasting red colored undersides. At maturity Dark Mystery Alumroot creates a leafy mounded shape 14 inches high by 24 inches wide, and striking plumes of cream flowers on dark purple stems appear in late spring and early summer increasing the height to 23 inches. Discovered in 2008 by Luc Klinkhamer of CNB Greenteam, Dark Mystery Alumroot combines vigorous growth with desirable characteristics from its suspected hybrid parents: Heuchera `Frosted Violet`, Heuchera 'Crimson Curls' and Heuchera `Obsidian`. Suitable for full sun or shade, in can be used massed in groups as a groundcover, added to containers for color contrast and used in mixed borders. It will attract bees, birds and is resistant to deer. In mild climates the foliage will remain attractive through the winter.
