Mocha Alumroot

Mocha Alumroot has very large and dark purple leaves. It creates an impressive mound 16 inches tall and 20 inches wide. In late summer spikes of creamy flowers increase the height to 30 inches and provide an interesting contrast to the almost black foliage. The leaf color is purple brown in the spring and in full sun conditions will become almost black. Very striking and unusual, especially with its very large leaves. This plant is a Hecuhera villosa hybrid introduced by French plant breeder Thierry Delabroye. It will attract bees, birds and is resistant to deer. It would be lovely in a mixed perennial border or planted in groups as a groundcover. In milder climates the colorful leaves remain decorative all winter.
