Mahogany Alum Root

Mahogany Alumroot has dark red-brown leaves and tall clusters of white flowers. The leaves are highly ruffled and a shiny red brown, the dark leaves move from purple brown to a rich mahogany as the season progresses. 14 inch tall scapes bearing clusters of tiny white flowers appear in late spring and early summer. It would be suitable in containers, the front of shady perennial borders or as a groundcover. Mature size is 8 inches tall by 16 inches wide, and it prefers moderate moisture and will tolerate sun to part shade. It will attract hummingbirds and bees and is resistant to deer. In areas with milder winters the foliage will remain attractive. This lovely plant was introduced by Terra Nova Nurseries in 2007.
