The name of this plant means 'red moon' because its dark red flowers can reach nearly eight inches across.

Luna Red hardy hibiscus is a compact perennial that bears large red flowers in the summer months. It reaches a height of only about two to three feet with a width of about two feet so is perfectly suited to small urban gardens. As a form of the swamp rose mallow it prefers moist, and even wet, soils but can manage in average garden soils with regular deep watering in hot dry conditions.
