Panicle Hydrangea
‘Ilvomindy’ is sold under its trademark name of MEGA MINDY. This is a compact shrub 4 ½ to 5 ½ ft tall with a spread of 4 to 6 ft. It has large, conical flowerheads held upright on strong stems. The flowerheads are a mixture of showy but sterile flowers and smaller, fertile but nonshowy flowers underneath. The flowers emerge white in July, and turn pink as they mature. With new flowers continually emerging at the tip of the cone, the flowerheads are a lovely blend of color as the darker pink at the base of the cone melts into a lighter pink in the middle and then creamy white as the new flowers emerge at the tip. It blooms until fall. The color of the flowers is not affected by the pH of the soil. ‘Ilvomindy’ does well in full sun to light shad and is moderately drought - tolerant . It blooms on new wood so the flowers are not susceptible to late spring frosts. This is a hybrid of Hydrangea paniculata which is native to Japan, China and Korea where it grows at altitudes up to 4,000 ft.
