Panicle Hydrangea

'Renhy’ is sold under its trademark name VANILLA STRAWBERRY™. Typically it grows to 6 – 8 ft. with a spread of 4 – 5ft. The cone shaped flowerheads are composed mainly of showy but sterile florets with smaller, fertile but nonshowy flowers underneath. The flowers emerge white at the tip of the cone then turn pink as they mature and finally take on deep reddish pink tones as they age. A single flowerhead will have a blend of color from creamy white at the tip of the cone to deepening shades of pink at the base. The blooms first appear in July and will continue into the fall. The color of the flowers is not affected by the pH of the soil. 'Renhy' does well in full sun to light shade and is moderately drought - tolerant . In the spring, the buds develop on new wood so the flowers are not susceptible to late spring frosts. This is a hybrid of Hydrangea paniculata which is native to Japan, China and Korea where it grows at altitudes up to 4,000 ft.
