Preziosa Mountain Hydrangea

Preziosa is classified as a mophead-type hydrangea; a compact, deciduous shrub with a rounded habit that typically grows to 3–4 feet tall and wide and features small mophead-like panicles. The flowers, which bloom on old wood from July through September, begin as white and then change to pink and finally reddish purple over the course of the summer through fall. The leaves, which are displayed on dark maroon stems, emerge with a purple tint, mature to green, and finally take on red to purple tints in fall. The plant prefers rich, moist soil in partial shade and, although known among hydrangeas for its winter hardiness, is best protected with mulch and wrapped in burlap during cold winters. Plant in a sheltered location in the border or near the house.
