White Bleeding Heart

Lamprocapnos spectabilis 'Alba' is a white flowered form of Lamprocapnos spectabilis . which is native to Japan. It grows 2 – 3 feet tall and blooms in late spring with white flowers. The flowers are heart shaped and hang from long, arching, leafless stems. At the bottom of each heart shaped flower there is an inner petal protruding out which is reminiscent of a drop of blood and gives the plant the name “bleeding heart. The plant is attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies while resistant to deer and rabbits. It is hardy in zones 3 – 9.
