Gregori Hambali Medinilla

This spectacular plant is a Gregori Hambali medinilla, derived from a jungle plant from Papua New Guinea where it is a semi-epiphytic shrub. The large veined leaves have burgundy undersides which enhance the bright pink flowers that are borne in thick clusters directly on the stems of the plant.

Because of its semi-epiphytic habit, great care should be taken in choosing a light freely draining potting medium, and equal care should be taken in finding a suitable location where the plant will receive indirect light for most of the day. Outside, this can be achieved under a tree where direct light in the early morning or late afternoon but filtered light during the hotter hours is typical. This plant requires temperatures about 60 degrees Fahrenheit but is easily overwintered and is considered one of the easier medinillas to maintain in a home environment.
