Beebalm

Purple Mildew Resistant beebalm is derived from a north American native plant and grows to around 3-4 feet high and around 3 feet wide. As part of a multi-year evaluation of beebalms held at the Chicago Botanic Garden, Purple Mildew Resistant beebalm was found to have 2 -3 inch purple blossoms covering 60-80% of the plant for about a month from late June to late July. It had excellent mildew resistance and while some winter injury was observed, it maintained a consistently good growth habit and overall received a fair evaluation for growing in Chicagoland conditions.

Beebalm grows in sunny or partially shady areas. If you gently rub your finger across the leaf, you'll be pleasantly surprised by its fragrance. Bright pompoms of flowers bloom in midsummer, and removing faded flowers will extend flowering. Beebalm is great for attracting bees and butterflies and hummingbirds to your garden. It's easy to grow and adds a lot of color to your border. Cut back at the end of the summer and maintain soil moisture during dry periods to minimize powdery mildew.
