Narcissus ‘Hillstar’ is in Division 7. It grows 14 – 16 inches high and blooms in mid to late season with 2 – 3 flowers on each stem. The flowers are 2 ¾ inches wide with bright yellow petals that blend into white at the base. There is a small point at the tip of each petal. The corona is white and funnel shaped with a flared mouth. The bulbs are toxic and will not be eaten by deer or rabbits. The name Narcissus comes from the Greek word for narcotic and is tied to the myth of a young man known as Narcissus who fell in love with his own reflection. When he drowned in the pool where he had been admiring himself, Narcissus flowers grew up around the pool.
