Congo Philodendron

Philodendrons are popular, adaptable foliage plants that make good house or office plants. They do well in partly shady conditions and aren't fussy about watering or soil. One good watering a week should be fine for a plant in a large pot. 'Congo', also sold as "Congo Green", produces broad green leaves atop two-foot petioles. It has a shrubby habit rather than vining as other philodendrons, so it needs no support. It isn't grown for flowers, but the greenish-white flowers that may appear are fragrant. Its partner 'Congo Rojo' produces red petioles and reddish new leaves. One caution: philodendrons should be kept away from pets, as they are toxic.
