Phlox glaberrima var. interior is native to midwestern United States and is also known as marsh phlox or smooth phlox. It grows from 1 - 3 feet high and blooms in late spring to early summer with pink to purple flowers. It likes full sun to part shade and is hardy in zones 4 -8. The genus name is derived from the Greek word phlox meaning flame in reference to the intense flower colors of some varieties. The species name means completely hairless.
