Wild Date Palm

One of the world’s most popular and spectacular palms, wild date palm is often used on golf courses, city boulevards, and on the grounds of luxury homes. It has a single trunk, swollen at the base, marked by a diamond pattern created by leaf scars. It is dioecious—having both male and female plants; when fertilized, the female plant produces small white flowers followed by edible oval fruits that ripen to purple black. A fast-growing plant, it will reach 50–60 feet tall by 10–15 feet wide and tolerate temperatures to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Hardy to Zones 9–11.
