Brouwer's Beauty pieris
This broadleaf evergreen selection grows 3' to 5' in height. New growth that appears in spring is yellow before it fades to a dark, shiny green. Plant pieris in a shrub border or use it as a foundation plant. Tiny white urn-shaped flowers hang above the leaves in 4" to 6" racemes in March and April. If spring is cool, they will last for a few weeks. If you amend your soil with peat and provide winter protection, you too can grow pieris in the Midwest.
