Roseum Elegans Rhododendron

Rhododendron ‘Roseum Elegans’ produces rosy lavender flowers with reddish brown dorsal (towards the back) spotting that ages to pink on an evergreen shrub that can grow up to 8’ in height and 12’ in width in favorable climates. Each of the ball shaped trusses can contain up to 20 individual flowers. This cultivar is widely grown because it is more heat and cold tolerant than many of the other evergreen Rhododendrons. There are approximately 800 species of Rhododendrons in the world found in cool moist environments on acid soils. Roseum Elegans is a cultivar of Rhododendron catawbiense, a species native to the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia. This species provides good tolerance of heat and cold to its many cultivars and hybrid offspring.
